Two Boxes = Forty Years

With only a few hundred dollars in my pocket, a friend put me up for my first two weeks after I arrived in L.A in 1984. I was 35.

Before this, I had made myself a millionaire by age 27, was married, owned major property, had a creatively inspired unique restaurant, a solar greenhouse, plus numerous other endeavors in the works. I was admired, popular and well liked. But I had been hiding my true personality. I was gay. When my real personality finally raised its fiery dragon head for freedom, in a red necked city in the early 80s, where friends I’d known for twenty years refused to acknowledge me, I dive crashed.

One scorched earth experience followed another as I burned out any love, I had made for myself. It wasn’t pretty. I reached rock bottom and couldn’t accept myself. I hid from public for over a year, and I resented everything about coming out. In the end, with nothing to lose and winter approaching, (it was September) I packed up the few clothes I had left and headed south. I told myself, I wasn’t going to stop until I felt warmth. The coldness of life had taken a toll on me.

I arrived just after the Olympics, and Los Angeles was warm. It was the first warmth of any kind I had felt in the last three years, and it was from the sun. It felt so, so good.

Reality set in quickly though, and the friend I was staying with, soon let me know, that my staying there, was coming to an end. I called another friend back home and he agreed to purchase the last of anything I owned and wired $2500. to me. With that money I was able to get a cheap one room studio at the newly renovated Dicksbourgh, on Beverly Boulevard for $450.00/month, with $900.00 down for security and last month’s rent. The room had a murphy bed, sink, bathroom and ceiling fan. I had to buy a small used bar fridge, hot plate, sheets, pillow and towels to finish it off. I was a block away from Vermont Boulevard and the evenings were filled with unending road noise, helicopter fly overs with search lights, police sirens and gunshots. But I was excited to begin a new chapter in my life.

It was a few months after my move-in, when I had a lucid dream that felt so real, I felt it programmed itself into my DNA.

I was riding a horse beside another unknown rider. The horses were thin and weak; one pale brown, and the second a darker brown. We were driving a small herd of cattle through a desert. Small tufts of grass were visible that the cattle tried to eat. Weak cattle showed skeleton outlines of their bones underneath their hides.

As we rode through the desert, the view became increasingly desolate. There was blowing sand, the grass disappeared and the color of everything became a bleak dull brown. The further we rode into the desert, the more the cattle and horses lost weight. So much so, that the bones of the cattle started to protrude through their hides. Some cattle collapsed and died.

Then, out of nowhere, we came to a fence with a glowing pristine white gate. I looked across to the other side, but the blowing sand and desolate view was the same. Then, from the silence came a strong definitive voice. “Come in, there is plenty here”. As soon as the voice stopped, the gate slowly opened.  I took another look into the desolation ahead, and then turned to the other non-descript rider and said, “Well, we may as well go ahead. It can’t be any worse than what we’ve been through”.

We began to move the cattle forward. Bits of grass became visible and began growing from the barren sand. The amount of grass increased as the cattle crossed the fence line. The horses and the remaining cattle began to eat and slowly regained their normal weights. While the grass continued to grow, the bleak brown color disappeared over time and slowly morphed from a sandy green, into a bright emerald green. The grass grew so much that the animals disappeared from sight, and from the rider’s view, all you could see was movement in the grass.

That dream was close to forty years ago, and at the time, I thought I’d just look for the ‘white gate’ and things would fall into place. After having lost everything at home, I was hell bent on reclaiming the life I had before. I got a job within a week that I could walk to, and I put an application in for a green card as my mother was American. The green card took over four years to acquire.

This brings me to the two boxes. As I began sifting through the contents of each modern-day time capsule, I realized a pattern akin to the dream. I felt and could see the dream sequence unfolding before my eyes. These were the desert years, and I didn’t even realize I was in a desert. I guess the thing that prevented me from seeing I was in a desert was that I loved the work I was doing. And the second thing that saved me during this period was my naivete.

Those two boxes were filled with memories. Each time I received a card, be it birthday, Holiday, bereavement, letters, get well or for any unusual circumstance, it went into the boxes. There were thousands. This was mostly before computers, emails, text messages and social media took away meaningful heartfelt communication, and the magic that matched the element it was written on. The letters were long and there were ‘feelings’ you could read between the lines. The cards depicted the message sent and heightened it’s meaning. There were also thousands of photographs, mementos, airline ticket receipts and even my stamp collection from the ’50s, which I had completely forgotten.

I took the time to re-read all of the letters and cards twice. And, as I finally threw them away, I felt different. Negative and painful memories, regrets and actions I wish I had done differently, were purged in a very rapid way. Beautiful memories were imbedded. But it was, overall, a freeing experience. The photographs of which there were numerous duplicates, I’m scanning and uploading into the cloud and placing on a memory stick with notes.

During this period, I discovered I lived in at least ten different locations, according to addresses I found on the envelopes. Most of these before the year 2010. I do remember working all the time and getting deathly ill a few times where I went down to 120 pounds in weight. I worked to survive. It was endless struggle. Many of the cards and letters were from friends who have passed. Some natural causes, some from AIDS (many regrets there) and some from suicide. That realization alone makes you look at life differently. Personal cards and letters from family brought tears to my eyes, as I realized hidden messages, concerns and caring I had missed.

Even through these desert times however, I was generous with my time, feelings and what money I did have with others, maybe too kind, too trusting and because of this I was taken advantage of many times. Especially in the relationships I encountered. Lessons. Serious life lessons. An introduction and journey into the seven vices of man on any and every level. Some of these memories I will talk about later.

Did I come to the ‘white’ gate? Not physically, but I do know I’m on the other side of that gate. The grass is green and it’s starting to grow.

Rodeo of Heart Attacks

This was my fourth heart attack, August 21st, 2023. My first one, in 2002, was a Tripple Bypass (now referred to as CABAG (Pronounced cabbage) or Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting. They removed two veins from my leg and replaced two failed arteries. A third unfoiled artery was grafted to my heart. My second heart attack in 2019 was because, one of the veins used from my leg, had failed and they inserted a stent to open up the flow of blood. Then in 2021 I had my third heart attack, where there was only slight damage. The angiogram on this latest heart attack revealed both veins and the stent had failed, but the third unfoiled artery was intact and would last till my last day. There was light damage done, but the heart in its wisdom, actually, over time, grew ‘new’ capillary arteries to replace the failed leg vein arteries. Removing or cleaning out the failed arteries was deemed too dangerous for numerous reasons, including blood clots. Going forward, medication would be used to stabilize the heart.

At this point I’d like to thank Dr. Louie (2002), Dr. Kazmouz (2019 & 2021), Dr. Sherman (2023) and Desert Regional Medical Hospital, paramedics, nurses and staff for saving my life each and every time. Also, Eberhard, my husband, for his love and compassion, quick thinking, quick reactions and astute knowledge of my condition each and every time. I wouldn’t be here if not for all of them.

Which brings to me, the idea, that some thing or force out there wants to get rid of me, lol. On the other hand, I’m thinking, maybe there is more to do before I leave this realm.

It was just after lunch, and I had brought the last of the laundry upstairs. I noticed a ‘familiar burn’ in my chest. To be safe I thought I’d rest for a bit before continuing with chores. As I rested, I noticed ‘the burn’ was not subsiding. As a matter of fact, it was increasing in painfulness. I retrieved my prescription nitroglycerine and took one pill. I waited. I’m thinking to myself, “this can’t be happening now, we leave this Wednesday for Europe”. The burn subsided but did not entirely go away. I took it easy for the rest of the afternoon, with the lingering burn, and at 5pm we sat to watch the news and then made dinner.

As I got up from dinner, I felt major lightheadedness. I grabbed the chair to steady myself. The pain in my chest went from a 2 to plus 10 and there was that all too familiar tingling running up my left arm. On top of that I couldn’t breathe. The elephant in the room came and sat on my chest. Eberhard noticed the change right away. He helped me to the bedroom, made me lie down and promptly gave me a nitroglycerine pill. He called 911 and immediately I heard sirens in the distance. It only took them one and half minutes to get there.

I remember slipping out of consciousness. Don’t know for how long, maybe seconds, or where I went, but I could feel my identity being stripped from me. I felt I was nothing, and, totally empty. No possessions, no emotions, to attach feeling to. And then, there was a flow of consciousness of past life memories, but only memories of giving or receiving love. Attached was a realization that the only thing that matters in life is love in whatever form you can produce it. I likened my perspective of what was happening to a divine spiritual experience, except for the excruciating pain I felt surrounding the event.

There’s a light in my eyes. A paramedic is checking for signs of life with a pen flashlight. Many questions are being asked, needles going into my arms, blood samples taken.

Paramedic: “Here take this, now, this now, and another one (nitroglycerine). These are three chewable children’s aspirin. Take them and chew them. A heparin (blood thinner) bag is already attached to me intravenously. They take me downstairs and put me in the ambulance. It’s my first time in an ambulance. Eberhard drove me to the hospital with all my other heart attacks. When we reached the hospital, a doctor approached me immediately and asked; ” On a level of 1-10, what is your pain level”. I replied, “5”. They gave me more nitroglycerine and chewable aspirin. A whole set of monitors were enshrined around me with additional IVs. I was left to stabilize with the doctor checking on me regularly.

By midnight, my stats were stabilized. Dr. Sherman entered the emergency area, reviewed my chart and took an immense amount of time with me to go over what had happened and what would be planned to go forward. I’d have an angiogram in the morning which would reveal any damage and how to proceed from there. They took me to ICU, hooked up my monitors and dispensing machines, and three nurses slid me onto my new bed. They promptly gave me a sponge bath (BTW, I had showered earlier). That was fun. They turned off the lights and I was allowed to sleep, until the next blood test came along. My hands turned into human pin cushions, but the cause was good.

The next morning with shift change, I was given a new nurse, Nick. Super generous with his time and care, he asked if I need anything. I told him “I was cold” (they keep the whole hospital in deep freeze) and in a short while he returned with an extra blanket. As he spread it over me, I could feel it’s warmth. My mind flashed back to when I was kid and during bath time, my mom would take each of us seven kids and wrap us in a warm towel. Such a loving memory. DING, DING, 100 points Nick. Then to my surprise he unfolded a second warm blanket. DING, DING, DING, an extra 200 points!!!

That was the best experience ever!

Fear without Knowing

So, I’m coming around the corner to go to the boy’s room and there are two people waiting in line. The first person is standing  about four feet from the restroom doors. The second person is standing sixteen feet from the restroom doors. A line is forming, but neither of these two people move forward to take up the distance in the line.

What keeps them from moving forward?

Is this a sign of the times?

Is their fear of moving forward greater than their need to release?

One person comes out of the left side restroom and the first person takes his place. But, the second person in line refuses to move forward, even though the line behind him is forming quickly and reaching out the exit doors of the building. Finally, the second restroom becomes available and the person ahead of me moves to take his position inside the restroom. I immediately take up the lax in space of close to twenty feet and wait for the next restroom to become available.

If fear is this obvious in a nondescript environment, what does it say about the country under Trump?

Are we going to be governed by our small but innate fear of ‘not knowing’, or fear of ‘who we are’ as a replacement for I AM?

Move forward! Take a stand! Be who you were meant to BE!

Homeless……..part 3

Since I couldn’t afford rent and utilities, I gathered up the few possessions I had and moved them into the basement office of Beans and Barley. I was homeless. I didn’t want to admit failure to my family or friends, so I said nothing about my move.

Thankfully, the restaurant had some resources I could use. The staff room was equipped with a washer and dryer (we did our own linens) and a shower. As for storing my clothes and belongings, I came up with an inventive plan to keep them out of sight. Underneath the front stairway which led to the public restrooms, there was an access panel for the underbelly of the stairs.

The front part of the restaurant was heated by hot water radiators which were part of the main building boiler system. During construction it was determined that there wasn’t enough flow to the radiators to provide heat in our area, so a booster pump was installed to push the hot water through our system. The pump and its manual switch were located underneath the front stairway. The pump had to be turned on every winter. This area would be my new closet. I placed clothes hooks on each of the stairs and hung my clothes there. My sleeping bag and pillow fit nicely also. Each night, after the staff had left, ( I would leave with them and walk around the block and then come back), I unscrewed the panel, took my sleeping bag and pillow, set it on the floor of the office and went to sleep. In the morning, I would put everything back and re-screw the panel back in place. The staff always wondered how I beat them to work every day.

I lived like this for a couple of years. The good part was that I learned lots. Eighteen hour days became the norm and I put my heart and soul into the place. There were still bad periods before things began to turn around. Creditors called at all hours and it was difficult to do cooking when the phone never stopped ringing. One day it was so bad, I called the phone company and had the phone removed, (phones weren’t un-pluggable at this time) and a pay phone put in, which had an unlisted number. Finally, some peace! I could still call out when necessary, but I stopped being harassed.

Strangely enough, this action helped the business. It alluded to customers that we didn’t need a phone for business. It made us more popular. This, plus the fact that the food and service was immensely improved put the restaurant on the road to recovery.

By the way, I paid off the loan before it’s due date and never missed a payment.

SYNOPSIS

 

This is a metaphorical musical with satire, about seeking happiness, joy and purpose in life. By listening to your inner self, a person can reveal that part of themselves that needs nourishment and a discovery of your true gift and passion. Once discovered this gift must be shared with others. Real life is about giving, not taking. It is seen through the eyes and experiences of the main character Genus Dei and his inner feminine duality Amantia. Together, as one, they experience life and it’s meaning through everyday encounters. It’s never too late for discovery. As is with most cases, a catalyst may be needed. It can be something as simple as ‘Innocence’ or memorable people you meet along your ‘yellow brick road’. This is a different type of love story.

This forms the background babble from the bar crowd. It’s a local bar and there is always a mix of regulars, who know everyone and because it is a tourist destination town, a lot of visitors. The bar always has a warm friendly family feel to it. Spotlights are lighted or dimmed on each group as they become known to the public. The time for lighting each group is short)

IT WAS A DIFFERENT TIME. YET, IT WASN’T THAT LONG AGO. I LOVED TO LIVE AND LIFE WAS FOR LIVING.

I WAS BORN POST WAR, 1949. MY PARENTS SCRAPED OUT A LIVING AS AN ACCOUNTANT AND SECRETARY. ALTHOUGH THEIR LOVE OF MUSIC ESCAPED THEIR OWN CAREERS, CHARACTERISTICS FOUND THEIR WAY INTO THEIR SEVEN CHILDREN. I, THEIR SECOND SON, WAS BORN TO BE CHARACTERISTICALLY CREATIVE.

 

AMANTIA / VOICE OF REASON

DURING MY CHILDHOOD, MY FAMILY MOVED FREQUENTLY; NINE RESIDENCES IN ALL. EACH NEW NEIGHBORHOOD MEANT NEW POINTS OF REFERENCE AND UNFAMILIAR SURROUNDINGS. CONSTANT NEW STRANGERS IN MY LIFE PROVED TO BE AN EMOTIONALLY DISTURBING EXPERIENCE FOR ME. BEING EXTREMELY SENSITIVE, I WAS IN CONSTANT TERROR OF NEIGHBORHOOD BOYS AND FOUND HIMSELF A VICTIM OF AGGRESSION. THIS AND MY MOTHER’S OVERBEARING NEED FOR PERFECTION, GAVE ME AN ACUTE SENSE OF INFERIORITY. I ONLY CONFIDED INWARDLY TO AN ANONYMOUS PART OF MYSELF I COULD TRUST AND WHO WOULD UNDERSTAND MY FEELINGS. NEVER FEELING I BELONGED ANYWHERE OR WITH ANYONE AND FINDING IT DIFFICULT TO MAKE FRIENDS, I BECAME AN INTROVERT.

I PREFERRED THE IMAGINATION OF MY MIND AND THE SECURITY OF MY HOME TO JOINING OTHERS IN GAMES OR FRIVOLITY. MY LOVE OF CREATING PROJECTS OUT OF SCHOOL HOMEWORK OR CREATING ARTISTIC ENDEAVORS WHILE DOING GARDENING CHORES IN THE FAMILY BACK YARD, HELD MUCH MORE INTEREST FOR ME. I WAS ALONE, ENJOYING MY PROJECTS AND NO ONE COULD INTERFERE WITH MY CREATIVITY AND IMAGINATION. SEEKING FREEDOM FROM THE TEDIOUSNESS OF SCHOOL AND THE CONSTANT FAMILY BATTLES AT HOME WITH MY BROTHER AND SISTERS, I PLANNED A HITCH HIKING TRIP TO EUROPE. I SPENT ALL MY FREE AFTER SCHOOL AND WEEKEND HOURS EARNING ENOUGH MONEY AS A JANITOR AND BUSBOY IN HOTELS TO PAY FOR MY TRIP. AS SOON AS I FINISHED HIGH SCHOOL AT THE AGE OF SIXTEEN, I LEFT ON A TRANSFORMATIVE TRIP THAT CHANGED MY LIFE FOREVER.

 

 

AMANTIA / VOICE OF REASON

TRAVELLING AND EXPERIENCING NEW COUNTRIES, CULTURE, PEOPLE AND LANGUAGES OPENED ME TO A WHOLE NEW WORLD. I LOVED THE CREATIVE SIDE IT STIRRED INSIDE ME. I FELT OVERJOYED AND COMPLETELY AT EASE. COMFORT WITH MYSELF, BECAME A NEW FEELING IN MY LIFE.
RETURNING HOME ABOUT A YEAR LATER I FELT CHANGED. WHAT HAD BEEN PART OF MY HOME LIFE BEFORE, NO LONGER HAD ANY HOLD OVER ME. I’D FELT A SENSE OF FREEDOM FOR THE FIRST TIME. INSTEAD OF RETURNING TO UNIVERSITY, I FOUND EMPLOYMENT IN AN ISOLATION CAMP THAT MINED SILVER AND COPPER IN NORTHERN CANADA. IT WAS TWENTY-THREE MILES FROM THE ARCTIC CIRCLE, AND I SPENT FIVE YEARS AT THIS MINE; THIS LEARNING EXPERIENCE SHAPED AND FORMULATED ANOTHER PART OF WHO I WOULD BE. I LEFT THE MINE WITH AN IDEA THAT WOULD LET ME PUT INTO PLACE EVERYTHING I HAD LEARNED IN MY LIFE TO DATE.

 

 

GENUS DEI

AT THE AGE OF TWENTY-TWO, I TOOK THIS IDEA FROM A THOUGHT TO A REALITY. I OPENED A RESTAURANT IN MY HOME TOWN AND LEARNED COOKING THE WAY THE VERY FIRST CHEF LEARNED; BY EXPERIENCE. I CREATED AN ATMOSPHERE AROUND MY PRODUCT TO ENHANCE THE EXPERIENCE I WANTED PEOPLE TO FEEL INSIDE MY RESTAURANT. THE WHOLE CONCEPT AND FRUITION OF THE PLANS ALLOWED ME TO USE EVERY OUNCE OF MY CREATIVITY. LITTLE DID I KNOW THAT MY HIDDEN EMOTIONS WOULD ALSO STIR AN INNER AWAKENING DEEP INSIDE MYSELF. THIS STIRRING IN ME IS WHERE MY STORY BEGINS.

(Music Video 4 begins and shows a young GENUS DEI cooking in his restaurant with fun times, trials and tribulation; all for customers he doesn’t see or know. The interior of the restaurant is shown with customers eating and Jesus and his Disciples singing and clapping during the chorus. They are silhouetted in between the tables and chairs. Their appearance is timed to the music. It shows customers waiting in line to get into the restaurant and is a precursor to some of the characters, states of mind or emotions in the musical that further shape GENUS DEI / AMANTIA’S life.

It’s a parody from the movie Sister Act with Whoopi Goldberg and the Chorus singing, I Will Follow Him. The new title We Will Follow Them and new words for the song are shown on the video screen. CUSTOMERS at the bar and the DANCERS and SINGERS sing along. During the song, We Will Follow Them, ACACIUS and EGNATIUS hold up dual sets of sheep puppets. Music Video 12, Part 1 begins and shows dark skies, and a series of bells ringing, timed to the song. It also shows people searching in their lives for their purpose, dressed as a deck of cards. Weather they are on holidays in a tourist destination, in a casino waiting for the big win, refugees searching for a home or even parents searching for lost love in their relationship or for a new baby, the cards shuffle amongst the choices. TEMPTATION, noticing their communication rises from her bar stool and begins to make her way closer, so as to hear what INNOCENCE and GENUS DEI and AMANTIA / VOICE OF REASON are saying to each other)

(LADY FEAR enters the bar with her son. SHE is a frail woman in her eighties. With a wave, THE SON sees GENUS DEI and AMANTIA / VOICE OF REASON sitting at a table, close to the bar. THE SON and LADY FEAR move towards GENUS DEI AND AMANTIA / VOICE OF REASON to greet them. GENUS DEI rises as they approach and gives them both a hug. INNOCENCE approaches to take their drink order. It transverses into an early morning sunrise in paradise with birds chirping, and following her as she  takes HER walk each morning. It also shows her flowering garden where she sits each day looking at the world pass her by)

GENUS DEI and AMANTIA / VOICE OF REASON

(Return to bar stools at the bar and begin a conversation with ACACIUS about stigmas and how THEY learned many life lessons though them. In the background, Music Video 16 Rogers and Hammerstein’s Oh What a Beautiful Morning and Music Video 17 a parody of Rogers and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma begin on the video screens. They are the original videos with some of the words changed in Oklahoma, to suit the topic of stigmas. Animation is introduced in the video and shows Rogers and Hammerstein waking up and rolling over as they mull the new words. Many of the CUSTOMERS know the words and THEY sing along to the videos. The bartender EGNATIUS hands out American flags or mini flashlights to the CUSTOMERS around the bar, so they can use them during the chorus. EGNATIUS gets the AUDIENCE to join in with waving their flags or mini flashlights from their prop bags. At one point when the words are changed to “you’re gay”, nine of the DANCERS emerge from the stage area dressed as Supreme Court Judges and sing the words with a dance routine)

EVIL

(Enters the bar with three hooded SHADOW GHOSTS who have a demonic presence. Music Video 24 begins and depicts darkening clouds, windy scenes and turmoil. The music starts with heavy organ from Toccata and Fugue and transitions to Vivaldi’s Storm for EVIL’S high energy song. The lights are timed to EVIL’S entrance with HER SHADOW GHOSTS and dim as THEY make their way through the bar towards TEMPTATION, INNOCENCE and the DANCERS and SINGERS. The SHADOW GHOSTS presence is enhanced on the video. THEY swoop in and out of the lighting and CUSTOMERS, sometimes seen, sometimes hidden. GENUS DEI and AMANTIA / VOICE OF REASON watch closely from THEIR table, but as EVIL displays her recklessness, AMANTIA / VOICE OF REASON confronts EVIL while SHE sings her song)

INNOCENCE moves towards GENUS DEI and AMANTIA / VOICE OF REASON for protection, but as SHE gets close to them, EVIL waves her hand and the drinks on INNOCENCE’S tray jump off the tray and hit the floor. EVIL not satisfied with the fear SHE’S created continues to break liquor bottles on the shelves behind the bar, with a sweep of her hand. Her SHADOW GHOSTS swarm some of the DANCERS and SINGERS and THEY run from the bar or collapse from the weight of the SHADOW GHOST’S evil)

TRIUMVIRATE and TEMPTATION re-appear and mix with the CUSTOMERS. INNOCENCE with a noticeable change in personality, serves drinks to those in the bar. SHE is dressed differently with a glamorous, more confident look)

OKAY LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, WE’RE GOING TO START OUR KARAOKE OFF TONIGHT WITH ONE OF OUR FAVORITE BARTENDERS. EGNATIUS HAS WRITTEN A PERSONAL SONG AND HE’S GOING TO SING IT FOR YOU TONIGHT.

(Leaves the bar area and walks over to the stage while transforming into his alter ego. HE takes the elastic out of his hair, revealing long wild hair. HE removes his work shirt, which covered his arms, to reveal tattoos and rocker wear. HE grabs the mike to sing his song; I Don’t Like Sleeping In My Own Bed. It’s a rock ballad balanced out with tenderness. WE HAVE A LAPSE OF SINGERS RIGHT NOW, SO I’M GOING TO PLAY A VIDEO CALLED ‘HOPE, THE DREAM’. AMANTIA / VOICE OF REASON IS GOING TO COME UP TO THE STAGE HERE, TO GIVE YOU THE DETAILS AS THE VIDEO PLAYS. COME ON UP AMANTIA / VOICE OF REASON.

AMANTIA / VOICE OF REASON

THIS DREAM HAPPENED SHORTLY AFTER GENUS DEI ARRIVED HERE. IT GAVE HIM HOPE. MUCH MORE THAN A LUCID DREAM, IT WAS LIKE IT HAD BEEN PROGRAMMED INTO HIS DNA. FOR WEEKS AFTERWARDS IT PERMEATED HIS THOUGHTS AND STILL DOES TO THIS DAY.

 

HE WAS RIDING A HORSE AND BECAME AWARE OF A SECOND HORSE AND RIDER BESIDE HIM. IT WASN’T CLEAR AS TO WHO WAS THE SECOND RIDER. HE LOOKED AT THE HORSES AND THEY WERE THIN AND WEAK. ONE WAS PALE BROWN IN COLOR AND THE OTHER WAS A DARKER BROWN. THEY WERE DRIVING CATTLE THROUGH AN AREA THAT LOOKED LIKE DESERT. SMALL TUFFS OF GRASS WERE VISIBLE THROUGH THE SAND, WHICH THE CATTLE WERE TRYING TO EAT. THE CATTLE THEMSELVES WERE WEAK LOOKING, AND THEIR SKELETON BONES WERE STARTING TO SHOW UNDER THEIR HIDES. AS THEY RODE ALONG, THE VIEW BECAME INCREASINGLY DESOLATE. THERE WAS BLOWING SAND, THE GRASS DISAPPEARED AND THE COLOR OF EVERYTHING BECAME A BLEAK DULL BROWN. AS THEY RODE, THE CATTLE AND HORSES BEGAN TO LOSE WEIGHT. IT CAME TO A POINT THAT THE BONES OF THE ANIMALS STARTED TO PROTRUDE THROUGH THEIR SKINS. THEY BECAME SKIN AND BONE. SOME CATTLE DROPPED AND DIED.

IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE, THEY CAME TO A WHITE GATE. THEY LOOKED ACROSS INTO THE AREA ON THE OTHER SIDE AND IT LOOKED JUST AS DESOLATE AS WHAT THEY’D BEEN TRAVELLING THROUGH. OUT OF NO WHERE A VOICE SAID: “COME IN, THERE IS PLENTY HERE”.

AS SOON AS THE VOICE ENDED, THE GATE OPENED. LOOKING ACROSS GENUS DEI TURNED AND SAID, “WELL IT CAN’T BE ANY WORSE THAN WHAT WE’VE BEEN THROUGH; WE MAY AS WELL GO AHEAD”.

THEY STARTED TO MOVE THE CATTLE FORWARD. GRASS STARTED TO GROW FROM THE SAND. THE FURTHER THEY MOVED ALONG, THE STRONGER THE GRASS GREW. THE CATTLE BEGAN TO EAT. SO DID THE HORSES, AND THE SURROUNDINGS BECAME BRIGHTER AND BRIGHTER IN COLOR. THE ANIMALS ALL REGAINED THEIR NORMAL WEIGHTS. THE GRASS CONTINUED TO GROW AND CHANGED IN COLOR, TURNING BRIGHTER AND BRIGHTER INTO AN EMERALD GREEN. IT GREW SO MUCH THAT THE HEIGHT OF THE GRASS COVERED THE CATTLE. ALL THAT YOU COULD SEE WAS MOVEMENT IN THE GRASS. THE HORSES AND CATTLE DISAPPEARED FROM SIGHT. YOU KNEW THEY WERE THERE BECAUSE THEY COULD FEEL THE HORSES BENEATH THEIR BODIES OR SEE THE MOVEMENT OF GRASS IN THE DISTANCE. THE GRASS CONTINUED TO GROW UNTIL IT WAS UP TO THE RIDERS SHOULDERS.

FOR WEEKS ON END GENUS DEI SEARCHED FOR THE WHITE GATE IN HIS DAILY LIFE. IT ALWAYS TURNED OUT TO BE A FALSE GATE. HE ALWAYS ASSUMED TO HAVE A DREAM LIKE THIS WOULD MEAN THAT THINGS WOULD CHANGE IN HIS LIFE QUICKLY AND DRAMATICALLY. LITTLE DID HE KNOW HE WAS JUST STARTING TO CROSS THE DESERT. IT’S BEEN CLOSE TO FORTY YEARS AND STILL NO WHITE GATE.

WELL, I DON’T KNOW ABOUT ANYONE HERE, BUT G D, YOU MUST HAVE THE PATIENCE OF JOB. I DON’T THINK I’D WAIT FORTY YEARS FOR ANYTHING. WHO KNOWS, IT MIGHT HAVE JUST BEEN A DREAM WITH NO MEANING BEHIND IT. THAT’D BE A BUMMER.

The CUSTOMERS, somewhat dazed from the flash of light and looking bewildered, gaze around and seem like they are in a trancelike blissful peace. THEY realize that their own inner search for purpose in life maybe just a moment away in perception)

A rock is obtuse. It lacks the ability to discern insight, therefore it is solid in its makeup. It blends in with its surroundings, but in reality it is just ‘there’. It gives nothing. But, it takes something.

It takes space and the ability to absorb energy. Energy it absorbs is never given back in equal amounts of what is taken. On the contrary, it takes and takes and takes. Weather it is sunlight, air, or any energy, it sucks it from it’s source.

The purpose behind a rock is to reassure humanity that there is stability. An anchor for its inequality. A rock is a rock is a rock.

If you meditate on ‘rock’ you will find a deep, deep sense of solidness and anchoring. It will scare you with its depth.

How then does a human turn into a ‘rock’?

Probably, lack of love.

Give and take.

On both sides.

THE TRIUMVIRATE

(Music Video 9 begins and shows black and white sheep in fields being herded, with scenes of some sheep escaping and running away. During the chorus of the song Sheep, the sheep actually voice themselves. THE TRIUMVIRATE stands up and moves to center stage to begin their song Sheep. DANCERS join them dressed in chains, different religious dogma, laws of government, corporation’s gadgets, cell phones, or time pieces, with wires leading to and from their bodies. AUDIENCE participation with whistles that sound like sheep when blown is encouraged by ACACIUS. The chorus words for Sheep are shown on the video screen so the AUDIENCE can sing along)
